Govt to sell buffer wheat stock every quarter to control price
The government has decided to sell wheat from its stock in the open market every quarter, starting July, in its bid to check any rise in prices of the foodgrain, atta and other wheat products. Till now the Food Corporation of India offered some of its wheat stock only during the last quarter of the financial year — January and March — when availability of the winter crops dips. Sources said sale of first tranche of wheat under the ‘open market sale scheme’ will be conducted before July.

Supreme Court: If not marriage, how can lives of same-sex couples be bettered?
With the Union government driving home the judicial impossibility of disentangling the Special Marriage Act from the web of personal laws for legalising same-sex marriages, the Supreme Court asked the Centre what administrative measures could be taken to improve the day-to-day lives of same-sex couples. “Short of marriage rights... what can the government do for long cohabiting couples? They need some recognition for creating conditions for their social security and welfare," the SC said.

The Income-Tax Appellate Tribunal’s (ITAT) Mumbai bench recently held that the rental compensation received from a builder due to a redevelopment project is not taxable in the hands of the former flat owner. Ready to punish adversaries: Army, IAF chiefs
India has the capability, and more importantly the will, to respond to an adversary at a level that it deems appropriate and to impose its own escalation matrix, IAF chief Air Chief Marshal V R Chaudhari said on Tuesday. Army chief General Manoj Pande, in turn, said the armed forces will also continue to be operationally prepared to fight a two-front war if required, though India’s attempt would be to avoid such a situation.

30 years after Army officer’s death, AFT clears special pension for wife
In her plea before the AFT, it was stated that when she received the documents concerning the death of her husband, she came to know he was already suffering from “primary hypertension” aggravated by his service. He, therefore, should not have been deployed in the operational area and made to live in a bunker. Even as per court of inquiry conducted in this matter, the cause of his death was found attributable to military service.
